BASRA, Iraq (Oct 26) — A fire erupted at the Zubair oilfield in southern Iraq on Sunday, killing at least two workers and injuring five others, according to oilfield officials.
The incident occurred during welding operations near a crude oil pipeline, which carries oil from the Zubair field to nearby storage tanks. Emergency teams managed to contain the blaze shortly after it started.
Officials confirmed that oil production and exports were not affected by the fire, with current throughput at around 400,000 barrels per day.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
